Scarlet Pirate City ——
Redemption, deception and a potential pub fight. Welcome to Scarlet City! Questionable morals and selfish gains are not strange in these corners of the port. Choices to be made and treasures to find… but there’s a crew gone missing and a strange atmosphere… a certain ship is recruiting! Will you take on the mystery?
Astrid Morsel, age 25
… Astrid grew up with humans and lost her wings. She was banished from the fairy world because she was born with the mark on her shoulder. The village steeped in high superstition interpreted Astrid’s arrival as the end of peace and decided it was easier to banish her away than to understand what this change might mean for them. Astrid survived the choppy seas and was rescued by a crew of pirates who’ve never seen such a mystical baby before. Ashby, the captain of the ship took her in and named her Astrid…
… Starfarer was a ship of great beauty. Not every pirate is vicious and vile and some of them have their heads screwed on right. Denying authority and a sense of freedom however is in their blood, no matter what, they won’t obey the laws that keep them imprisoned in a system that makes them feel like slaves rather than beings …
… The village remained ignorant to the fact that Astrid survived and now traversed the seas with a crew of misfits. Life carried on as if nothing happened but you can never do such things without consequences. Ashby knew that, too. Ashby knew that this baby had a story and when time comes he had to decide wether to get involved or not. Or maybe it was too late for that and he already sealed his fate when he gave her a name and a floating home. A man of virtues keeping his vices at bay, he tried take the actions of least danger. For himself and his crew. Although he despised the system he still aimed to thread lightly outside of it. Sometimes disguising the Starfarer as a legitimate ship, taking on legitimate jobs. He’d never steal but luckily had a knack for finding lost treasures that were fair game. He often pondered what this might mean for him and his crew, taking in Astrid. As she grew, she became skilled and resourceful at navigating the seas but still making rookie mistakes out of pure excitement, losing her tracks in thought or getting distracted by a pod of whales. She was picking up the way of sea faring with fierce determination but sometimes couldn’t help but feel lost at how she was the only fey. Sometimes strange magic would come to her that she couldn’t explain. Nor could anyone else on the ship. They accepted her and tried to help her when for example she accidentally set fire to the sails or summoned a body of water towards the ship. For her twenty-first birthday she received an amulet from Ashby that was enchanted with spells to protect her and keep her magic safe. He said he was sorry he couldn’t help her learn more about it but magic users were sparse in this part of ports. Once they finished their current job though, he promised Astrid they could go to Scarlet City. Where she might be able to meet beings who knew magic.
Stepping onto a ship for the first time is a moment many remember forever, a step like that will change course of life, one way or the other. The adventures, the loot, the hype of a heist can make any fey or being question their own motivation or why they have took to the seas. The bittersweet aftertaste of victories, stealing and hustling for more gold… As many semi decent beings who have set out to sail before, so did Astrid Morsel get lost in the loop of drunken lullabies. Then one day, after waking up to a sore face in the same old tavern, faith has offered them a choice. Will they take on the opportunity to solve a mystery and redeem what little is left of their reputation or will they fall down to the same whirlpool that have taken many pirate’s life before…
